We would like this proposal to no longer be considered after the April 16th board meeting. Below are the school board contacts & relevant elected officials (our School Board Representative is Cindy Pearson).

Our event goal is for 300 people to contact our School Board and other relevant decision makers via phone and/or email Please comment when you have called and emailed so we can keep a tally going and to help show the impact we are making.

VOTE!

VOTE for School Board Candidates (D1, D3, D5, D7) on August 20th

The best way to support our school is by voting for the school board candidates who are advocates of traditional public schools.

Early voting is August 7-18 in Duval County, from 10am - 6pm. If you live in school district 1, 3, 5, or 7, school board candidates are on your ballot. School board races are nonpartisan so they’re on EVERYONE’s ballot, even NPAs. This is a critical election for our public schools - please show up on August 20th and vote!

Sample ballots for August are ready. You can find the link to your sample ballot at this website

The Video from the District 3 School Board Candidate Forum hosted by Jacksonville Public Education Fund can be found here.

District 3 Community Meeting Regarding Closures

District 3 Community Meeting Regarding Closures

Mark your Calendar for this VERY IMPORTANT Public Community Meeting regarding our school, Holiday Hill, and other schools in our district.

DCPS wants us to be involved and to have input. If you are upset with HHE being on the list of potential closures, this is your time to show up and state why our neighborhood school is important!

5:30 p.m. Reception: Review feeder pattern details; ask questions
6:00 p.m. Formal meeting begins; deadline to sign up for public comment.

Plan to wear your Holiday Hill Shirt or Blue. Shirts for local pickup are still available and can be purchased here: https://hhe.memberhub.com/store

Option Sign Up: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0C48A4AA2AAAFE3-49745762-june#/

Please watch the two videos which walk through the proposed changes to Holiday Hill Elementary (closure and new feeder pattern):
Terry Parker HS Feeder Pattern Video: https://dcps.duvalschools.org/Page/34666

Englewood HS Feeder Pattern Video: https://dcps.duvalschools.org/Page/34659

Thoughts for speaking points:

-We do not want K-8 mega schools. Large schools do not equate to better academic and student success in this age group. Share why a K-5 is the ideal size for our children.

-We want a school close to where we live - where our children can walk and ride bikes to and from school. We have a large population of “walers.” Southside Estates is over 4 miles from HHE. The district is going to need to consider the additional cost of transportation if our students are no longer able to walk to school.

-The Gifted & Academically Talented Leadership Magnet Program & ESE Pride Program are outstanding and very critical needs. If you have children in these programs, it would be wonderful to hear why they are meaningful to you.

-Eliminating this school will negatively impact real estate values in our community. If you have moved to the Holiday Hill area specifically for this school, let the board know why this topic is important to your household.

-Community Involvement is very high in our area and generations have been attending our school since the 1950s. If you live in the area, please share how this community is important, and why our school is an essential part of it. Would love to hear from local business owners.

-Our existing school does not need a rebuild. It would be a “nice to have,” not a “need” at this time. Our school is in good shape and does not require a costly rebuild.

-We want choices when it comes to feeder patterns. We do not want to eliminate our feeder pattern to some of the best middle schools in the state.

DCPS School Board Meeting

Wear your Holiday Hill shirt or a blue shirt and join us at the school board meeting! We need as many people willing to show up as possible! The other schools are out in droves - let's show the School Board that we have a supportive community, too!

Location: Duval School Board Building, 1701 Prudential Dr, 32207

Arrive: Around 5:00pm (meeting starts at 6:00pm)

Please fill out a blue speaker card inside the lobby as soon as you get there and then get in the line outside. EXPECT A CROWD.

To speak: Fill out a speaker card, found in the lobby. Everyone WILL be allowed to speak who completes a card before 6:20pm. Name & address are required; be sure to check the correct box to request to speak. If you don’t want to speak, please still complete a speaker card, check the box not to speak, and indicate support or opposition for the designated agenda item.

Time Limit: A full house is expected so it would be wise to plan for only ONE MINUTE to speak. Time limits are strict and enforced and you will be cut off after 60 seconds.

We have also created a Sign Up Genius in order to help gauge participation. You can sign up as an attendee or a speaker (with many options for speaking topics, or add your own). You do not have to sign up in order to attend either meeting! This is just to give everyone a better sense of school and community participation.

The church is not affiliated with the sponsor of the event.

The leader of this event is a local pastor. Their goal is to give school board candidates a platform to share their ideas.

Our HHE school board representative, Cindy Pearson, will be in attendance. There will some candidates who are running for election from zones 1, 3, 5, and 7.

This should be a worthwhile and informative event where we will have the opportunity to listen to ask the candidates questions.
